In a dedicated effort to honor and commemorate the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the student leaders of Dow Treasure Academy (DTA) are pleased to announce the organization of two impactful community service activities.
“Socks & Soup” Canned Food and Sock Drive – Jan. 15, 2024
On Monday, January 15, 2024, DTA members will host a "Socks & Soup" Canned Food and Sock Drive at UAW Local 699 (1911 Bagley Street, Saginaw) from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Embracing the principle of "every can counts," attendees contributing food items will have the opportunity to participate in a drawing for various prizes, including a flat-screen TV, wireless headphones, gift cards, and more. Also, students and volunteers will assemble 100 boxes in preparation for the subsequent food distribution.
Free Food Distribution – Jan. 20, 2024
All collected items from the “Socks & Soup” event will be distributed to families during a free food distribution event on Saturday, January 20th, at UAW Local 699, beginning at 11:00 a.m. In collaboration with Parishioners on Patrol, DTA students and Dow mentors will collaborate to pack and distribute 100 boxes of food to be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis. Saginaw residents interested in obtaining a box of food must present a valid driver's license or state ID. The event will commence at 10:45 a.m. with brief remarks from DTA students, community leaders, and civic figures, underscoring the collective commitment to fostering community welfare and addressing food insecurity.
