understanding the Dow treasure academy

The Dow Treasure Academy is an empowerment program to engage and inspire black and brown youth in the Saginaw Community through education, mentorship, and training. This program will be implemented during after school, in-school, and weekends sessions.

The Dow Treasure Academy (DTA) Module provides students with the motivation, hope, and skills needed to successfully bring excellence into their work, home, and personal lives. This is accomplished through a world-class learning experience with special emphasis on leadership, life skills, entrepreneurship, and interpersonal skills.

THE EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROCESS

DTA provides quality instruction and materials in the skills needed for our students to succeed in a wide variety of vocations and in their personal lives. It does so by offering the students instruction that is tailored to engage all learning styles.

Each student receives a comprehensive workbook and a day planner/journal to track progress. Courses are taught by professionals via classroom, video, and virtual instruction. A unique virtual series called “The Speaker's Series” is also utilized in the course. These videos feature a diverse group of individuals that have overcome significant challenges in their lives and have overcome their adversities to become successful in various areas their specific fields.

Dow Mentors will work with students to assist in lesson retention and life application, and to answer questions that arise after formal class time. Mentors also provide caring support as the students are stretched beyond their previously known limits. Each mentor must meet a strong set of ethical and professional standards before he/she is allowed to interact with our academy members. They will be provided “Best Practices” training from a certified trainer/coach on dealing with youth who may suffer from trauma.

By providing quality instructional experiences that are supported by compassionate mentoring, we create opportunities for participants to compete in a global economy, having been exposed to a more formal education.
